Bolton Greens still fighting to save Bolton's libraries

Bolton Green Party has been actively involved in the fight to save Bolton's libraries, both directly and also through involvement in the Save Bolton Libraries Campaign. Members have been involved in rallies, lobbies of the council, and the collection of 15,000 signatures on a petition to stop the closures.

With five local libraries being earmarked for closure, and the first of these already shut, the fight to save Bolton's libraries is not yet over.

The Save Bolton Libraries Campaign and the Bolton and District Civic Trust have both submitted evidence to the Culture Secretary requesting his intervention in the dispute.

A public meeting in September last year saw Green Party members on the platform arguing their case against senior Labour, Liberal Democrat and Conservative councillors. The audience of over 100 left the councillors in no doubt as to the strength of public opposition to the proposed closures.
